Jun–Oct: dry, excellent game viewing. Jan–Feb: Serengeti calving. Gorilla trekking is good year-round but drier months (Jun–Aug, Dec–Feb) mean easier trails.
May–Oct: dry season, best game concentration around waterholes. Victoria Falls is most dramatic after the rains (Feb–May).
Seychelles: Apr–May and Oct–Nov for calm seas. Zanzibar: Jun–Oct (dry), Jan–Feb (hot). Mauritius: May–Nov (cooler and drier).
Jun–Sep and Dec–Feb are drier. Trekking is possible year-round; wet season (Mar–May) means lush forests and fewer crowds.
USD 800/person. Book minimum 3–6 months in advance via Uganda Wildlife Authority (UWA). 8 people per gorilla family per day. Available at Bwindi and Mgahinga.
USD 1,500/person. Book via Rwanda Development Board (RDB). Volcanoes NP. Peak season books out 6+ months ahead. Premium price means fewer crowds.
USD 250/person (habituation experience: USD 250 full day). Book via UWA or your lodge. More accessible than gorillas — 3–4 months advance booking usually sufficient.
USD 82/person/day entry. No park-wide booking required but must reserve lodge well in advance. Flying between camps strongly recommended.
Always fly in where possible — save hours of road time, maximize game time, and access remote areas unavailable by road.
Never book fewer than 3 nights at any single camp. 4–5 nights allows you to truly settle in and see different wildlife behavior.
Request a private vehicle and guide. The cost difference is modest; the experience difference is transformational.
Look for lodges on private conservancies adjacent to national parks — exclusive access, night drives, and dramatically fewer vehicles.
